It has been a while since we have last looked at the harder side of Trance, but this new JOOF Recordings release by Terrafusion allow us to make up for this hole.

Terrafusion

Terrafusion are Omar Jose Avila and Richard James Thorne. Their debut release was a 2 track EP back in 2006 on Equilibrium. In the following years they published further singles and a bunch of remixes on various labels. They have an album ready to be released, but have not found yet a label on which to publish it.

Terrafusion – Numen (JOOF Recordings)

1. Numen-Latiaris

2. Numen-Martis

If you are puzzled by the track titles, we have used the (in)famous Wikipedia website to try clear the matter. Numen stands for "presence" and is "the power of either a deity or a spirit that is present in places and objects". Latiaris is Jupiter or Jove, the King of the Gods in Roman mythology, while Martis is Mars, the God of War and son of Jupiter. All this helps understand that this is not actually a 2 track EP, but a single release with a main version and an alternative mix.

We have to admit to really miss the good old days of melodic Hardtrance, so this release is a really pleasant and welcome surprise. The Latiaris version is clearly more uplifting with lot of melodies layers and an old-school "2000" uplifting Trance feeling missing from the current Trance. However the real gem of this release is the banging and driving Martis Version, a darker take of Numen. In the last post we just talked about minimalistics approach to Trance music, here instead we are on the opposite side of the spectrum as we deal with an accumulation of different sounds and effects worthy of the best Hardtrance productions.

All in all another strong release by JOOF Recordings, Numen is a modern take of the "2000" Hardtrance sounds that we recommend you not to miss.

Tracks to not miss in order of preference: 2, 1.
