Russian producer Den Kozlov can't certainly claim to have the biggest group of followers in the mainstream scene despite being active inside and outside his native country since well over 15 years and currently being a resident dj in London. That's a real shame because if you dig deep into his fragmented discography you will discover we are talking about an artist that should have gotten way more recognition during his career.

Just 12 months ago Den released the album Heartbreaker as Karmahaker, one of the best trance albums of the past few years and we are ready to bet even the most hardcore genre followers hardly ever heard about it. So it is really never too late to try correct such injustices and that's why we are going to review with great trepidation this 7th (hopefully Discogs can be trusted on this count) artist album Den has published under the In'R'Voice alias titled Futurepast.

In'R'Voice, or Inner Reasonance Voice as it is known in Russia, is a project known for its minimalistic (no minimal music here though) and deep take on psychedelic trance and this album is no exception. All tracks proceed at a very slow tempo for psy-trance standards, but Den is clever enough to blend trance, progressive, breaks and psy elements in a tasty cocktail to not make this album a boring slowed down version of a progressive psy-trance album. If you are tired of the current trance sound that Armada is trying in every way possible to push down in our throat this is definitely an album that could refresh your view of what is still released if you are ready to dig deep. Obviously there are more accessible ways to switch to a different side of trance, but a track like Futurepast, which gives the title to the album, is definitely an excellent introduction to trancey sounds cooked without using the usual standardized formula.

Other tracks that deserve a mention are the melancholic closer Cities Of Light, dreamy synths blended in an ethereal atmosphere, and the way more driving progression of Reflection. Unfortunately the rest of the album is not up to par with the three tracks mentioned as they mostly flow away without really leaving that kind of long lasting impression you expect and hope to have, even though they are not bad tracks by any mean. It's just that they miss the spark to make them go from listenable to unmissable.

To sum things up this latest effort by Den Kozlov under the In'R'Voice moniker is an album that proposes interesting psychedelic and trance sounds, but the final result could definitely have been better, especially knowing the talent of the artist behind them.
